Mourinho Sues Fenerbahce Over Sanctions in Turkey

Jose Mourinho has initiated legal proceedings against the Turkish Football Federation and Fenerbahce, where he served as the manager. The lawsuit was filed in March 2025 at the European Court of Human Rights, alleging that sanctions imposed on him violated his right to freedom of expression.

The disciplinary actions stemmed from remarks he made in support of a rival team during a match in November 2024, which resulted in a match ban and fines totaling €21,000. The court documents, dated May 13, indicate that Mourinho's complaint raises serious questions regarding the independence and impartiality of the Turkish authorities.

Mourinho, who arrived in Istanbul in June 2024 and was welcomed by fans, was dismissed from Fenerbahce after 14 months in charge. His previous managerial roles include stints at Benfica and Real Madrid.
