Movie Review: Fantastic Four: First Steps

The latest reboot of "Fantastic Four" directed by Matt Shakman in 2021 finally breaks the losing streak of previous adaptations. The script, written by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer, drops the audience into an alternate 1960s planet where the heroes are praised and marketed to the world.

The film tells the real origin story of the heroes in a quick montage, showcasing Reed Fantastic (played by Pedro Pascal), Sue Woman (played by Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Torch (played by Joseph Quinn), and Ben Thing (played by Ebon). The movie takes a grounded approach to storytelling, focusing on the core family dynamics as they protect the world from total annihilation by Galactus.

The action sequences are excellent, with standout performances from the cast. Despite some minor quibbles with the CG effects, "Fantastic Four" is a heartfelt and fun superhero movie that fans of the genre should not miss.
