NAFDAC Denies Government Directive to Suspend Sachet Alcohol Enforcement

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied reports suggesting that the Federal Government directed the suspension of enforcement actions on 200ml sachet alcohol and pet bottle alcohol products. The agency clarified that it continues to operate within its statutory mandate and in line with government policies.

NAFDAC's Director-General, Adeyeye, firmly rejected claims of receiving instructions to halt regulatory activities, stressing the agency's dedication to safeguarding public health and ensuring compliance in the food and drug sector. NAFDAC urged the public, industry stakeholders, and the media to disregard unverified information and rely only on official communications from the agency.

The controversy arose following alleged statements from the Special Adviser to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation regarding the enforcement actions on sachet alcohol. NAFDAC remains committed to regulating sachet alcohol and small-volume alcohol beverages, subject to ongoing national debates and concerns over public health risks.
