N’Assembly to Support Tinubu with Security, Economic Reforms

On Thursday, Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, stated that the National Assembly will accelerate support for President Bola Tinubu to strengthen security and advance economic reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria's economy. Akpabio noted the current security threats, including attacks on soft targets such as schools, churches, and mosques, and acknowledged the need for enhanced security in vulnerable communities and border areas.

He mentioned that lawmakers are exploring the establishment of a regulatory framework for state police to improve local security. Akpabio commended Tinubu's reforms, which he believes will stabilize Nigeria's economic trajectory, addressing challenges such as multiple exchange rates and unsustainable fuel subsidies.

He also highlighted significant infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the Lagos-Badagry-Sokoto road corridor, which are expected to transform the agricultural sector. Furthermore, Akpabio disclosed that the National Assembly is considering increasing the statutory fund for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund to strengthen police infrastructure and equipment.
