Tuchel Names England Squad, Dowman Omitted Sparking Debate

On September 18, Thomas Tuchel announced his first England squad since the 2026 World Cup, which has ignited discussions regarding the exclusion of Arsenal teenager Max Dowman. Despite his impressive performances for Arsenal, the 16-year-old was not included in the 27-man squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Spain, Czechia, and Croatia.

Tuchel has recalled players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Cole Palmer while introducing several newcomers, including Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, and Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The squad changes come after England's third-place finish at the World Cup, leading to the omission of ten players from the previous squad, including notable absentees like Noni Madueke, John Stones, Dan Burn, Reece James, and Ivan Toney.

Former England striker Jay Bothroyd has voiced that Dowman’s exclusion is more unfortunate than that of Madueke, highlighting the ongoing debate about Dowman's readiness for senior international duty.
