Nigerian Navy Denies Misleading Claims on Officer's Death

The Nigerian Navy has issued a statement urging the public to ignore misleading claims circulating on social media regarding the death of a female rating. Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information, described the reports as false and misleading.

The Navy expressed condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, who passed away on May 20, 2026, at Gowon Estate, Ipaja, Lagos. The claims suggested that the female officer was punished for being absent due to illness and later died after being forced to perform fatigued duties.

The Navy clarified that they are handling the matter with professionalism and sensitivity, stressing the importance of respecting medical confidentiality and the family's privacy. They appealed to the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to allow the investigation to proceed without speculation.
