Northern Youth Union Backs Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi for NBBF

The Northern Youth Union has officially endorsed Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, for the presidency of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) ahead of the October 15, 2026 Elective Congress. This endorsement follows extensive consultations with youth stakeholders across the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory.

During his declaration, Dr. Abdullahi pledged to prioritize grassroots development, talent discovery, infrastructure, and players' welfare. Dr. J.M.

Abbah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Northern Youth Union, highlighted Dr. Abdullahi's extensive experience in basketball, including over two decades as a player and his contributions through the Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha (DAM) Foundation, which includes building basketball courts and sponsoring tournaments. The Union believes Dr. Abdullahi's vision can transform basketball into a viable industry, generating jobs and attracting investment.
