Delta Assembly Declares Egbetanah's Seat Vacant Amid Controversy

The Delta State House of Assembly, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), declared the seat of Collin Egbetanah, who represents Udu Constituency, vacant. This decision follows Egbetanah's defection from the APC to the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the Assembly's action, labeling it politically motivated and unconstitutional, arguing that it infringes upon Egbetanah's rights to free assembly and association. The NDC stated that Egbetanah was previously a minor member of the House until he switched allegiance, which led to perceptions of him as a threat due to his loyalty to former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege.

The Assembly has also withheld Egbetanah's salary for several months. The NDC has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reject what they describe as illegal political intimidation and urged the Assembly to allow Egbetanah to perform his constitutional duties.
