NDPC Reports 2,000 Cyberattacks on Service Portal

The National Data Protection Commission (NDPC), led by Dr. Vincent Olatunji, disclosed that hackers executed 2,000 attacks on its service portal within a single week.

This surge in cyberattacks underscores the increasing cyber threats confronting government institutions in Nigeria as they expand their digital efforts. Olatunji noted that these attacks aim to embarrass government institutions, financially extort them, or engage in malicious activities.

He emphasized the necessity for government institutions to bolster their cyber defenses and enhance human capacity to protect sensitive information. The NDPC is actively involved in the federal government's digital transformation agenda, which aims to achieve full digitization across 35 ministries in the coming weeks.

Olatunji also highlighted the importance of developing a skilled workforce to defend government systems and protect citizen data, as the integration of digital services increases exposure to cyber risks.
