CBN, NDDC Fail to Attend NEITI Senate Hearing

The Senate panel, chaired by Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo from Gombe, convened a public hearing to review findings from the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) audit reports. Key agencies, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), did not attend the opening session, nor did representatives from NEITI.

In response to the absence of these agencies, the committee issued a summons for their management to appear on Thursday, August 6, 2026. Senator Dankwambo warned that failure to comply with this summons would result in severe legal sanctions as permitted by the 1999 Constitution and Senate Standing Orders.

Despite the absence of key figures, the committee proceeded with its scheduled hearing, where officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) were expected to appear.
