Tinubu Eyes Kogi-Born Professor as New INEC Chairman Successor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly considering Kogi-born Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan SAN to succeed Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the new chairman of INEC. Yakubu's tenure is ending after almost 10 years, with his appointment dating back to 2015 under the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

The presidency is said to be strongly considering nominating Amupitan as Yakubu's replacement, with Amupitan having a background in law, evidence, corporate governance, and privatization law. Amupitan, born on April 25, 1967, in Kogi, has a wealth of experience in legal matters and currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Administration at the University of Jos, Plateau State.
