New Zealand to Shift Visitor Visa Applications Online by 2026

Starting October 1, 2026, New Zealand will implement significant changes to the submission process for selected visitor and transit visa applications. Applicants will be required to use Immigration New Zealand's enhanced Immigration Online system, which will no longer accept paper applications for the affected visa categories.

These categories include general visitor visas, group visitor visas, academic visitor visas, and several others, including super yachts visitor visas. The new online platform will enable applicants to upload supporting documents electronically, track their applications, and receive real-time updates.

This digital transition aims to reduce paperwork and minimize errors and delays in the visa application process. While paper applications will cease for most categories, exceptions will be available in certain circumstances, and applicants needing to submit a paper form post-deadline must contact Immigration New Zealand.

Some visitor visa categories, such as those for partners and children of military personnel, will continue to accept paper applications.
