NZ Defence Force Opens Military Careers to Foreign Residents

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has announced that foreign nationals residing in New Zealand can now apply for military careers, expanding eligibility to permanent residents and holders of specific visas alongside New Zealand citizens. According to the NZDF careers portal, applicants must be medically and physically fit, at least 17 years old at the time of application, and must turn 18 by the time they complete recruit training.

Additionally, applicants must not have any criminal convictions. The NZDF confirmed that eligibility extends beyond citizens, welcoming permanent residents and holders of a New Zealand Residence class visa with indefinite stay.

Once enlisted, recruits are responsible for pursuing their citizenship as soon as they become eligible. The NZDF also indicated that certain roles may have additional requirements beyond the four core conditions.
