New Zealand Allows Australians to Work Without Visa

New Zealand has announced that Australian citizens and permanent residents can live, work, and study in the country without needing to apply for a standard work visa, as per guidance from New Zealand Immigration. The Australian Resident Visa is designed for Australians wishing to relocate or stay in New Zealand indefinitely.

Applicants must already be in New Zealand to submit their request. Eligibility requires individuals to be either Australian citizens or permanent residents, and they must meet all conditions attached to the visa.

Notably, Australian temporary residents are ineligible for this visa. Additionally, Australian permanent residents must obtain a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before traveling, while Australian citizens do not face this requirement.

A significant benefit for qualifying Australians is the exemption from the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL), which applies to most other international visitors. This arrangement positions Australia as the only country whose nationals can access New Zealand's live-and-work rights through this specific pathway.
