NFF Addresses FIFA Verdict Rumors on DRC Player Eligibility

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has responded to circulating reports suggesting that FIFA has issued a verdict regarding Nigeria's protest against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) concerning alleged ineligible players. This dispute arose following Nigeria's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff against the DRC in November.

The NFF filed a formal complaint questioning the eligibility of several DRC players, arguing that Congolese law does not recognize dual nationality, raising concerns about players holding European passports. Ademola Olajir, the NFF's Director of Communications, stated that FIFA has not yet ruled on the matter and described claims favoring either Nigeria or the DRC as false and misleading.

Moham Sanusi, the NFF's General Secretary, emphasized that the DRC FA has not provided complete documentation when seeking FIFA clearance for players. The DRC FA, represented by Director of Football Rita Ilunga, has publicly rejected Nigeria's claims, urging Nigeria to accept the results on the pitch.
