NFF Urges FIFA Sanctions Against South Africa Over Ineligible Player in World Cup Qualifier

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has written to FIFA, urging sanctions against South Africa for fielding an ineligible player in a World Cup qualifier against Lesotho. Teboho Mokoena, who had accumulated yellow cards, played in the match, leading to uncertainty in the group standings.

With two matches remaining, South Africa leads the group with 17 points, followed by Benin with 14 and Nigeria with 11. If sanctioned, South Africa could lose crucial points affecting their World Cup qualification.

This action follows Nigeria's past experience of losing points due to a similar issue in the 2018 qualifiers. The NFF seeks a fair resolution to maintain the integrity of the competition.
