NGX Market Wrap 29-Apr-2026 | Plus234Feed
The Nigerian Exchange closed higher on Wednesday as broad-based gains across multiple sectors pushed the All-Share Index to 236,303.21 points, with five stocks hitting the 10% upper circuit. Trading activity remained robust, with ₦55.7 billion in total value exchanged across 74,660 deals.
The NGX delivered a solid performance on 29 April, with widespread strength across equities driving the All-Share Index higher. Market breadth tilted decisively in favour of gainers, evidenced by five stocks reaching the 10% upper limit—UACN, ZICHIS, CAP, AIRTELAFRI, and JAIZBANK—signalling genuine investor appetite for equities across sectors.
AIRTELAFRI's ₦274.60 naira gain to ₦3,021.30 was particularly noteworthy, suggesting renewed confidence in the telecom sector despite macroeconomic headwinds. UACN's ₦15.00 advance to ₦165.00 indicates positive sentiment in the consumer goods space, while CAP's climb to ₦132.00 reflects steady demand for insurance stocks.
However, offsetting these gains were notable losses in consumer-facing and agro-linked stocks. CADBURY and JOHNHOLT both fell 10%, losing ₦7.35 and ₦1.40 respectively, pointing to possible profit-taking or earnings concerns in the discretionary sector. FTNCOCOA's 9.09% decline to ₦5.00 may reflect commodity price pressures or seasonal weakness.
Volume concentration remained centred on tier-one banks: ACCESSCORP dominated with 242.2 million shares traded, followed by UBA at 149.1 million. This suggests institutional activity was focused on large-cap liquidity plays rather than broad market participation.
With market capitalisation at ₦152.1 trillion and total value traded at ₦55.7 billion, today's session reflected steady institutional engagement. Investors should monitor whether this momentum sustains into Friday or if profit-taking emerges at current levels.
