Niger State Governor Lifts Ban on Motorcycles and Tricycles in Minna Amid Security Concerns

Niger State Governor Moham Bago has lifted the ban on motorcycles and tricycles in the state capital, Minna, which was initially imposed from 6 pm to 6 am but has now been revised to 8 pm to 6 am. The decision to lift the ban came after complaints from traders about hardships caused by having to close their shops early and walk long distances due to the curfew.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, announced the lifting of the ban, citing a significant and sustained improvement in the security landscape of Minna. Despite the ban being initially implemented as a proactive measure to curb criminal activities, residents have expressed frustration as attacks by hoodlums and robbers have continued.

The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, responded to allegations of extortion by policemen against motorcycle and tricycle riders, stating that no official reports had been received. Former Governor Sani Bello's administration had initially imposed the ban.
