Nigeria Faces Resurgence of Terrorism Amid U.S. Strikes

Nigeria is experiencing a troubling resurgence in terrorist activities, primarily attributed to groups linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Recent weeks have seen intensified attacks across the country, particularly in the North East, North Central, and North West regions, resulting in the deaths of numerous soldiers, including senior military officers such as Lt Col Umar Faruq, Lt Col S.

Iliyas, and Major U. Mairiga.

The Nigerian military has faced significant challenges, with reports indicating that armed groups are adapting their strategies and expanding their operational reach. A notable incident occurred on March 13, when a military convoy was ambushed in Plateau State, leading to the deaths of 14 soldiers.

In response to this escalating violence, the U.S. has conducted strikes against terrorist hideouts in Nigeria, marking a new phase in bilateral security cooperation. A Nigerian delegation, led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, has traveled to Washington to discuss expanding counterterrorism efforts, emphasizing the urgency of international collaboration to combat these threats.
