Nigeria, U.S. Strengthen Security Ties in Key Meeting

From May 4 to May 6, 2023, Nigerian National Security Advisor Nuhu Ribadu conducted a three-day working visit to the United States, engaging in high-level discussions with senior U.S. officials, including Vice President J.D. Vance, National Security Advisor Marco Rubio, and Undersecretary of State Allison Hooker.

The meetings aimed to enhance the strategic partnership between Nigeria and the U.S., focusing on counterterrorism, defense cooperation, intelligence sharing, and regional security. Ribadu expressed Nigeria's commitment to working with international partners to promote peace, stability, and democratic governance across Africa.

The discussions also addressed the evolving security situation in the Sahel and the need for enhanced regional cooperation to tackle complex asymmetric threats. U.S. officials commended Nigeria's leadership role in regional peace and security efforts, reaffirming their commitment to democratic values and economic cooperation in West Africa.
