Nigeria and China Strengthen Migration Cooperation Agreement

Nigeria’s Immigration Service (NIS) and China’s National Immigration Administration have reached an agreement to deepen cooperation on migration management, border security, and intelligence sharing. This development was announced by NIS Public Relations Officer Akinsola Akinlabi following a bilateral meeting between Comptroller-General of Immigration Kemi Nandap and senior Chinese immigration officials in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province.

The meeting occurred during the Sub-Forum on Migration Management Cooperation from September 8 to 11, which included over 2,000 participants from 139 countries and international organizations. Nandap emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to international partnerships for effective border security and migration management.

Proposed cooperation areas include technical exchanges and capacity-building initiatives. The NIS also engaged in discussions on combating document fraud at the forum.

This agreement aligns with Nigeria's ongoing efforts to enhance border security and migration management through technology and international collaboration, including recent initiatives like a real-time border surveillance system launched in October 2024.
