Algeria Tops List of Countries with Blocked Airline Funds, Nigeria Excluded

According to a report by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Algeria leads the list of countries with blocked airline funds, totaling USD 1.2 billion. Nigeria, which previously missed the list, is not among the culpable countries.

The report highlights ten countries across Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia responsible for 89% of the total blocked funds. IATA calls on governments to lift restrictions on currency repatriation to enable airlines to access revenues from ticket sales and cargo activities.

The association emphasizes the importance of reliable access to US dollars for airlines to sustain operations and fulfill financial commitments.
