Nigeria's Health Minister Confirms Ebola Case from Uganda

The Federal Government of Nigeria confirmed an imported case of Ebola virus disease in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The patient, a woman who recently traveled from Uganda, is currently in isolation.
Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, announced the confirmation on Tuesday in Abuja. Laboratory tests confirmed the infection after the woman began experiencing symptoms on October 7, with her condition worsening four days later.
She arrived on an international flight from Uganda and was admitted to a private hospital for several days before the diagnosis was made. Authorities have identified 44 contacts and are intensifying surveillance at entry points to prevent further transmission.
Pate emphasized the collaboration between the Ministry of Health, the FCT Health Secretariat, and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. He urged health facilities to remain vigilant and advised the public to practice good hygiene and report any Ebola-like symptoms.
Enhanced Ebola surveillance protocols have been activated at international airports nationwide.
