Nigeria's Ilhenikena and Usor Lead Comeback Against Madagascar

In their opening match of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, Nigeria triumphed over Madagascar with a score of 2-1 in Uyo. Madagascar initially took the lead in the 15th minute through Kari Eshan's header from a quick corner.

Nigeria's Alex Iwobi had a goal disallowed due to a foul by Akor Adams on goalkeeper Geordan Dupire. Debutant George Ilhenikena equalized just before halftime, controlling Iwobi's lofted pass and scoring past Dupire.

After the break, Madagascar threatened to regain the lead, but Nigerian goalkeeper Nwabali was alert. Coach Eric Chelle made substitutions, bringing on Moses Usor, who quickly impacted the game.

Usor assisted LASK's Bordeianu, who scored Nigeria's second goal. Tolu Arokodare nearly added a third, hitting the woodwork, while Dupire made a crucial save from a corner.

The match also marked Moses Simon's 100th appearance for Nigeria, as Chelle continued to integrate new players into the Super Eagles.
