Dangote Refinery Boosts Nigeria's Petrol Supply in August

In August 2026, crude oil supplies to Nigerian domestic refineries increased significantly to an average of 683,000 barrels per day (b/d), marking a 16.75% rise from the 585,000 b/d supplied in July, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). This increase coincided with a rise in petrol receipts, which averaged 50.5 million litres per day (ml/d) in August, up 11% from 45.5 ml/d in July.

Domestic petrol supply reached 35.9 ml/d, a 39% increase from 25.8 ml/d in July, while petrol imports fell by 26% to 14.6 ml/d. The Dangote Refinery achieved an average capacity utilization of 105.21% in August, producing 41.94 ml/d of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 18.01 ml/d of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and 24.48 ml/d of aviation fuel.

The refinery supplied 35.87 ml/d of PMS to the Nigerian market and exported 9.73 ml/d. The facility ended August with significant stocks of PMS, AGO, and aviation fuel, indicating a larger share of petrol supplied to the domestic market and a decline in reliance on imports.
