Tinubu Dismisses Concerns from Catholic Bishops’ Conference

Cardinal John Onaiyekan, the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, reported that President Bola Tinubu rejected concerns presented by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) during their meeting at the State House in Abuja. Onaiyekan spoke on Prime Time on Arise Television, indicating that the bishops aimed to convey the true state of the nation, which they believe contrasts with the overly positive reports often given to the President.

During the meeting, President Tinubu asserted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was neutral and that the economy was performing well. Onaiyekan noted that the President did not respond positively to their concerns, stating, “The President rejected our concerns about the country.

Nigeria is bleeding.” He expressed that the bishops felt it was their responsibility to provide an honest assessment of the nation's challenges, despite knowing it was not what the President wanted to hear.
