Nigeria's FG Launches Framework for Research and Innovation

The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated steps to create a coordinated national framework for research and innovation governance and financing. This initiative, articulated by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, aims to transform research findings into technologies, enterprises, and jobs.

The announcement was made during a Stakeholder Sensitisation Workshop in Abuja, focusing on the Draft Executive Bill for the establishment of the National Council on Research and Innovation (NCRI) and the National Research and Innovation Development Fund (NRIDF). Dr. Udeh emphasized the importance of utilizing Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) for job creation and entrepreneurship, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad, represented by Mr. Abubakar Takuma, highlighted the proposed legislation's potential to enhance Nigeria’s research architecture and improve funding mechanisms for innovation and technology transfer.
