Nigeria Supports Gulf of Guinea Maritime Task Force

Nigeria has committed to providing full infrastructure and operational support for the Gulf of Guinea Maritime Task Force. This includes the provision of office buildings, ships, helicopters, and temporary personnel to host the force's headquarters.

The pledge was made by Vice President Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, during the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union. In a statement issued by spokesman Stanlei Nkwocha, Shettima highlighted Nigeria's readiness to ensure effective operations of the task force, which extends beyond maritime security.

He called for stronger coordination among African nations to address security threats, debt distress, and mineral exploitation across the continent. Shettima stressed the need for collective action to tackle transnational crime and destabilizing activities affecting regional stability.

He welcomed the progress of the African Standby Force and encouraged the acceleration of the implementation of the memorandum of understanding with the African Union Commission and the Economic Community of West African States.
