Nigeria Ranked Most Generous Country in Global Survey

Nigeria has been ranked as the world's most generous country according to a report by the Charity Aid Foundation, which surveyed 60,000 people across 105 countries. The report found that 61% of respondents made donations in 2025, either directly to people in need or for charitable and religious purposes.

This figure represents a slight decrease from 64% in 2024. On average, Nigerians donate 2.8% of their income to charitable and religious causes, significantly higher than the 0.6% average in Europe.

The report highlights that ten of the most generous countries are located in Africa and Asia. Mark Greer, Managing Director of the Charity Aid Foundation, noted that various factors influence generosity, including personal values and experiences.

This ranking comes amid ongoing economic challenges in Nigeria, where citizens are facing rising petrol prices and increased living costs due to economic reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Despite these hardships, the report indicates a strong culture of giving among Nigerians.
