Six Nigerian Heritage Players Selected in 2026 NBA Draft

The 2026 NBA Draft, held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, saw six players of Nigerian heritage selected across two days. Ebuka Okori was chosen 17th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder, although he is expected to end up with the Detroit Pistons due to a prior trade agreement.

Zubi Ejiofor, who had an impressive collegiate career at St. John's University, was selected 23rd overall by the Atlanta Hawks.

Otega Oweh was picked 41st overall by the Miami Heat, with expectations of transferring to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Oweh had a standout final collegiate season, averaging 18.6 points and earning SEC second-team honors.

Felix Okpara was selected 46th overall by the Orlando Magic, while Tobi Lawal was picked 48th overall by the Dallas Mavericks. Ugonna Onyenso rounded out the Nigerian contingent, being selected 53rd overall by the Houston Rockets.

Onyenso, who was born in Imo State, transitioned from football to basketball and became the youngest player to represent Nigeria's senior men's basketball team.
