Nigeria's Prof. Utsev Leads Regional Water Cooperation Efforts

Nigeria has recommitted to enhancing regional cooperation on water resources management, climate resilience, and sustainable development across Africa. This commitment was articulated by the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, during a regional conference on hydrodiplomacy, gender, and strategic investments held in Abuja.
Utsev emphasized the importance of effective water resources management in promoting sustainable development and addressing challenges that transcend national borders. He stated that Nigeria would collaborate with the Niger Basin Authority, Lake Chad Basin Commission, ECOWAS, and other stakeholders to advance a practical and inclusive water agenda.
Mr. Kocou Houanye, Executive Secretary of the Niger Basin Authority, highlighted the conference as a platform for dialogue among countries and institutions, while Ambassador Ibrahim Babani of the Lake Chad Basin Commission discussed efforts to improve water management through new tools and the importance of involving women and youth in governance and decision-making.
