Nigeria Spends ₦12.8 Trillion on Petrol Imports Amid Dangote Refinery Delays

Nigeria has spent ₦12.8 trillion on petrol imports as the Dangote Refinery faces clearance delays. The Nigerian Midstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) revealed that the country imported a significant amount of premium motor spirit between August 2024 and October 2025.

The import figures fluctuated monthly, with the highest import volume recorded in September 2024. The delays in local production have led to heavy dependence on imports, impacting the economy and the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
