Nigeria, Turkey Partner On Diaspora Relations

Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Memmet Poroy, has proposed a partnership between Nigeria and Turkey to strengthen diaspora relations. During a meeting with the Director of Media and Public Relations at the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Balogun, Poroy highlighted the active involvement of the Turkish diaspora in politics and governance across Europe.

He expressed interest in studying the Nigerian diaspora experience and commended NiDCOM's efforts in collating demographic statistics through a diaspora portal. The partnership aims to improve diaspora engagement strategies and support policy planning for Nigerians abroad.

Poroy also suggested addressing challenges faced by Nigerian students in Northern Cyprus. Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration and share best practices in diaspora policy.

The meeting concluded with Poroy presenting materials on Nigeria's National Diaspora Policy and previous National Diaspora Day Merit Awards.
