Nigeria, U.S. Strengthen Security Cooperation Efforts

Nigeria and the United States are deepening their security and counterterrorism cooperation, as articulated in a statement following a meeting between Nigerian National Security Adviser Ribadu and U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The discussions emphasized the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consolidate Nigeria's strategic partnership with the U.S. and to address emerging security challenges in West Africa, particularly in the Sahel region.

Ribadu underscored the importance of sustained cooperation to confront threats such as terrorism, organized crime, and cyber threats. The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Nigeria-U.S.

Joint Work Group (JWG) aimed at enhancing bilateral security cooperation, intelligence sharing, and military collaboration. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to democratic values and economic cooperation, pledging to continue diplomatic dialogue and strengthen defense and security collaboration.
