Nigeria-US Trade Slumps: Exports to US Drop to $379m in July Amid Tariffs

Nigeria's exports to the United States experienced a significant decline, dropping from $639 million in June 2025 to $379 million in July, a 41% decrease in just one month. This slump was attributed to the impact of President Trump's tariffs on Nigerian goods.

Despite the fall, the U.S. maintained a trade surplus with Nigeria, totaling $206 million in July. The overall trade surplus from January to July stood at $781 million.

Across Africa, the U.S. saw an increase in imports but a decrease in exports, leading to a widening trade deficit. South Africa, in particular, deepened its trade deficit with the U.S. during this period.
