Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle revealed the reason for substituting striker Victor Osimhen at halftime during Nigeria's World Cup qualifying playoff final against DR Congo. The match ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes in Rabat, Morocco, with Frank Onyeka and Mechak Elia scoring goals.

Chelle cited Osimhen's injury as the reason for the substitution, while DR Congo defender Noah Sadiki believed Osimhen's injury actually helped their team. DR Congo will represent Africa in the intercontinental playoff in March 2026.
