Nigerian Athlete Faces 15 Years in U.S. Jail Over Firearm Possession

Nigerian track and field athlete Oghenebrume, residing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm as an alien in the U.S. on a non-immigrant visa. The incident involved a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend and a child present, leading to Oghenebrume discharging a firearm.

The Department of Justice outlined the events, including Oghenebrume smashing his ex-girlfriend's phone and attempting to scare her with the firearm. He now faces 15 years in prison, a fine, and possible deportation.

The case is being prosecuted with the assistance of the U.S. Attorney's office.
