NCC Donates Seized Bibles to Correctional Centers

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) donated confiscated copies of holy Bibles to correctional centers across Nigeria during an official handover ceremony in Lagos. Dr.

John Asein, the Director General of the NCC, stated that this initiative demonstrates the agency's commitment to enforcing copyright laws while respecting religious sensitivities. He explained that modern editions of the Bible, including translations and commentaries, are protected under the Copyright Act of 2022, which grants copyright holders exclusive rights to reproduce, publish, and distribute their works.

Asein warned that unauthorized reproduction and sale of such works constitute a criminal offense under Nigerian law and undermine legitimate revenue. He noted that the NCC is collaborating with the Nigeria Customs Service to intercept pirated materials at the nation's borders.

Instead of destroying the seized Bibles, the NCC redirected them for humanitarian use, emphasizing the moral dimensions of piracy and urging religious leaders to respect copyright laws.
