Nigeria's Petrol Consumption Falls 25% in July 2026

In July 2026, Nigeria experienced a significant decline in domestic petrol supply and consumption, as reported by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). Daily Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) supply decreased by 21% to 25.8 million litres per day, down from 32.5 million litres in June.

Consumption fell by 25% to 35.7 million litres per day, compared to 47.4 million litres in the previous month. Despite the drop in supply and demand, petrol stock sufficiency improved from 19.7 days to 22.4 days, providing a stronger buffer against potential market disruptions.

Total daily PMS receipts also declined by 10%, from 50.6 million litres in June to 45.5 million litres in July. Additionally, Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) consumption plummeted by 41%, from 2.9 million litres to 1.7 million litres.

The Dangote Refinery produced 15.6 million litres of ATK, with domestic receipts at 1.9 million litres and exports at 11.6 million litres, resulting in a closing stock of 217.4 million litres.
