NJC Recommends 12 New Justices, Suspends Two Judges

The Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of 12 new justices to the Court of Appeal and suspended two judges for judicial misconduct. This decision was reached during the NJC's 111th meeting held on May 13, chaired by Chief Justice Kudirat Keker Ekun.

The appointed justices include Yakubu Abdulhamme, Monisola Oluwatoyin Abodund, Raphael Ajuwa, Elia Oji Abua, Mbalamen Jennif Ijohor, Sabiu Bala Shuaibu, Jame Kolawol Omotosho, Emeka Nwite, Dauda Njane, Buba Sanusi Kado, Enikuomehin Ademola Julcit, and Veronica Dadom. The NJC also addressed the retirement of public servants, concluding that the constitution does not prohibit their judicial appointment.

Additionally, the NJC suspended judges Ibrahim D Shekarau and Edward E Okp for one year without pay due to misconduct involving ex parte orders and failure to observe due process. The council dismissed 73 petitions against judicial officers for lack of merit and commended nine judges for exemplary performance during the 2024-2025 legal year.
