NLC's Joe Ajaero Urges Government Action on Petrol Prices

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), under the leadership of President Joe Ajaero, has made urgent demands to the Federal Government in response to the recent increase in petrol prices, which have reached ₦1,430 per litre. Ajaero called for immediate wage awards for workers, an increase in crude oil supply in naira to local refineries, and the expansion of the country’s storage capacity.

He expressed serious concerns regarding the impact of rising petrol costs on workers and households, stating that the increase exacerbates poverty and affects essential expenses such as transportation, school fees, and food prices. Ajaero urged the government to create economic buffers to protect Nigerians from rising energy costs while also addressing job creation and security challenges.

He emphasized the need for fair wages, adequate crude oil supply to local refineries, and enhanced national storage capacity to prepare for energy emergencies and strengthen energy security.
