Nigerian Mining Society Calls for Mandatory Geoscientific Investigations Before Mining Activities

The Nigerian Mining Geosciences Society (NMGS) is urging relevant authorities to enforce mandatory geoscientific investigations before commencing mining activities to establish a sustainable foundation for infrastructure development and environmental management. During a press briefing in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as part of the 261st National Council meeting, NMGS President Rose Ndong expressed concerns over the rampant illegal mining activities in Nigeria, emphasizing the economic losses and environmental degradation caused.

Ndong emphasized the importance of sensitizing citizens to discourage harmful mining practices and advocated for policies tailored to the country's mining sector. The NMGS aims to promote safe and orderly mineral extraction through geoscientific investigations to prevent chaotic mining activities.

Ndong also highlighted the upcoming 61st Annual International Conference in Uyo with a focus on optimizing resource management and infrastructure development for sustainable economic growth.
