Nnamdi Kanu Sues Imo Police Commissioner, Demands N10bn Damages Over Defamation

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has filed a N10 billion defamation lawsuit against Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma. The lawsuit, filed in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja by Kanu's lawyer Maxwell Opara, also seeks N50 million in exemplary damages.

Kanu is challenging a press release issued by Danjuma on July 25, linking IPOB's security outfit, Eastern Security Network (ESN), to a killing in Imo State. Kanu is asking the court to declare the statement false and defamatory, issue a perpetual injunction against similar statements in the future, and compel the Commissioner to publicly retract the allegation and issue an apology.

Kanu's lawyer argues that the statement was made without proper investigation or credible evidence, causing serious damage to Kanu's reputation. The court is yet to set a date for the hearing of the lawsuit.
