Atiku Calls for Halt to NNPC's Proposed Refinery Deal, Citing Failed Models

Atiku Abubakar, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and a chieftain of the African Democrat Congress (ADC), has urged the discontinuance of a proposed refinery deal that includes a foreign partner by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Atiku criticized the deal, labeling it as a mere repetition of failed models.

He expressed clear dissatisfaction with the state of the nation, accusing the government of advancing cronyism and plotting to sell public assets. Atiku, a former Vice President, highlighted concerns about the NNPC's involvement in bribery scandals and the lack of financial transparency.

He also criticized the dual role of the NNPC as both an industry player and a regulatory firm. Additionally, Muhammed Basil, a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) from Adamawa State, withdrew from partisan politics to assume the role of an elder statesman.

Basil called for Nigerians to look forward to the 2027 elections and urged Atiku to step aside to allow younger politicians to lead.
