NNPC Increases Crude Supply to Dangote Refinery to Seven Cargoes

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has boosted crude oil supply to Dangote Petroleum Refinery to seven cargoes for May, an increase from five cargoes in April. This decision comes as Nigeria faces mounting pressure from rising fuel prices, which have reached record highs.

The refinery struggles to secure sufficient crude, requiring between 13-15 cargoes monthly to operate at optimal capacity. Despite the increase, the refinery continues to rely on imports due to domestic supply constraints.

NNPC officials have stated that they are committed to supporting local refining capacities, including Dangote's, within existing agreements. The refinery, expected to commence operations in 2024, aims to significantly reduce Nigeria's dependence on imported petroleum products.

However, challenges related to crude supply, pricing, and logistics continue to affect its operations. The increase in crude allocation is critical for achieving energy security and stabilizing fuel prices in Nigeria.
