Diezani Alison-Madueke Testifies on NNPC Funding Claims

Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Minister of Petroleum Resources in Nigeria, testified at Southwark Crown Court regarding allegations that her lifestyle was funded by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). She stated that payments made for her accommodation and travel were strictly for official responsibilities and not bribes.

Alison-Madueke claimed that she incurred expenses for logistical support while managing her duties in the UK, including £2 million spent at Harrods and £4.6 million on refurbishing properties. She denied any knowledge of a £100,000 cash delivery linked to her and described her stay in luxury accommodations as necessary due to her role.

Facing five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery, she maintains her innocence. The trial also includes oil executives Olatimbo Ayinde and Doy Agama, who have pleaded not guilty.
