Wole Soyinka Reacts to US Visa Revocation Linked to Trump Criticism

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka confirmed the permanent revocation of his American visa, suspected to be due to his longstanding criticism of US President Donald Trump. Soyinka received the revocation letter from the US Consulate in Lagos on October 23, 2025.

Despite this, Soyinka stated he holds no resentment towards the American people and will still welcome them to his home in Abeokuta. He emphasized his commitment to speaking out against injustice and discrimination globally, including against racism and wrong government policies.

Soyinka previously tore up his US green card in protest after Trump's election victory in 2016.
