Nigeria's Health Minister Confirms No Ebola Treatment Available

Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, stated that there is currently no licensed specific treatment or vaccine for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola detected in Nigeria. During an interview with Arise Television, he confirmed that the infected patient is stable and receiving supportive medical care.
The patient had initially been treated for a viral illness before being diagnosed with Ebola and has received antibiotics and antiviral medication. Pate emphasized the importance of public cooperation in managing the outbreak, urging individuals who may have had contact with the patient to follow health authority instructions.
The Federal Government confirmed the first reported case of this outbreak after a woman traveling from Uganda developed symptoms and was admitted to a private hospital in Abuja. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has activated response measures, including contact tracing and enhanced surveillance.
As of October 20, Anambra State was monitoring 40 persons of interest, while Ogun State was tracing 111 individuals.
