Nollywood Mourns as Actor Alexx Ekubo Dies at 40

Alexx Ekubo, a prominent Nollywood actor, died at the age of 40 on Tuesday, following a private battle with kidney cancer. Reports indicate that Ekubo had been struggling with his health, which explained his prolonged absence from the public eye and social media.

He was rushed to the hospital on May 11, 2024, and placed on life support as his condition deteriorated. Close friend and colleague Godwin Nnadiekwe shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, expressing heartbreak over the situation.

The news of Ekubo's passing triggered an outpouring of grief from peers across Nollywood, including Funk Akindele, who posted a somber message on Instagram. Bolanle Ninalowo, currently in the United States, also expressed shock and prayed for healing for Ekubo's family.

Ekubo was known for his versatile roles in films and music videos, rising to fame after finishing as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria contest and becoming a fashion icon in the African entertainment space.
