Nuhu Ribadu Launches New Security Framework for Oil Sector

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has introduced a new operational framework called the Standard Operating Procedure for the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry-Wide Security Architecture. This initiative aims to coordinate security agencies, private surveillance contractors, and other stakeholders in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, following the recovery of more than 2.4 million barrels of stolen crude oil.
Nuhu Ribadu, the NSA, emphasized the importance of Nigeria’s hydrocarbon assets for economic stability and national development. The framework seeks to harmonize security operations, clarify responsibilities, and enhance collaboration to combat challenges such as crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
It has already contributed to the deactivation of over 10,000 illegal refineries, the removal of nearly 7,000 illegal pipeline connections, and the arrest of over 3,700 suspects. The document was developed through consultations with various stakeholders over a period of about two years, concluding in September 2026.
